The Additional Activities (AA) are implemented within the FOREST partnership to increase the long-term impact, visibility and operational relevance of the FOREST partnership. Furthermore, these activities will complement the Joint Calls of partnership and provide a framework for cooperation beyond jointly funded research projects.
Objectives:
- Strengthening collaboration, knowledge exchange and coordination across the European forest research and innovation community
- Creating synergies between national and European activities
- Fostering alignment and networking of the involved partners, especially the participating research (performing) organisations
- Establishment of a European Network of Forest and Forestry Living Labs
- Better coordination between forest monitoring and forest policy priorities
- Open up access to key research and technology infrastructures across Europe
- Increasing the impact and networking of national funded research and innovation projects
- Supporting capacity development activities, especially for next generation scientist
Five Areas of Action
Task 4.1 – European Network of Forest and Forestry Living Labs
Development and networking of forest-related Living Labs to support collaboration, experimentation, demonstration and knowledge exchange across Europe.
Task 4.2 – Alignment of monitoring and forest policy priorities
Strengthening cooperation on forest monitoring and observation, including the exchange of approaches, methods, data and expertise and the development of joint activities addressing shared European needs.
Task 4.3 – Sharing Research and Technology Infrastructures
Improving cooperation, visibility and access to relevant forest research and technology infrastructures, while fostering synergies between existing European facilities, networks and initiatives.
Task 4.4 – Thematic Annual Programming (TAP)
Supporting joint strategic programming and coordination around selected research and innovation topics, bringing together interested FOREST partners and relevant national activities.
Task 4.5 – Empowering Next Generation Scientists
Supporting the next generation of forest researchers through networking, knowledge exchange and capacity-building activities, including a European PhD Forum and Summer Schools.
From ideas to joint action
A key instrument for implementing the Additional Activities will be Pilot Actions, jointly developed by FOREST partners around topics of shared interest. They will provide opportunities to test cooperation formats, connect existing national activities and expertise, and develop new transnational collaborations.
